Kevin Dillon crafts fine art prints and cards in the tradition of the Books of Kells, the ancient medieval illuminated manuscript found in both Scotland and Ireland, now housed at Trinity College, Dublin.
Using rediscovered medieval techniques, Kevin produces his own paints from crushed semi-precious stones, (lapis lazuli, cinnabar, malachite etc.) formulates the ink, scrapes and prepares the calfskin vellum, then meticulously scripts and illuminates each artistic piece, overlaying them with 24k gold.
Each reproduction is printed on 100% rag paper with UV inks proven to last 150+ years before fading. The wax seal melted into the print is Kevin's signature. Kevin hand crafts the wooden frames out of old barn wood, burning a Celtic knotwork design or Celtic cross into each one.
We discovered Kevin's work at an Irish Trade Fair and knew immediately his commitment to the ancient Celtic designs and old world craft techniques belonged at Cara Magnus.
