St. Magnus Cathedral Earrings

$139.00

From Sheila Fleet, Orkney Scotland jewelry designer, the St. Magnus Cathedral post earrings are based on sandstone symbol designs found on the east wall of the St Magnus Cathedral in the Orkney Islands. Founded in 1137 by The Earl Rognvald Kolsson the cathedral is built of yellow and red sandstone, the red from the Head of Holland on Orkney Mainland, the yellow from the outer island of Eday, the Cathedral took 300 years to complete and the east wall dates from the late 13th century. These carvings may be associated with 3 alters dedicated to St Margaret, St Catherine and St Barbara which stood beneath them. The Sterling silver earrings measure 7/8" diameter. Gift boxed.
